114.1 million adults searched for product information online last year, and 98.9 million of this group went on to make purchases. For all of 2004, online purchasing was split 60 percent women and 40 percent men. In total, members of Generation Y, people born since 1977, have annual income of $211 billion, and they spend a larger portion of this income online (14.5 percent in 2004) than adult consumers.

What?
In 2004 online shoppers spent $3.7 billion on apparel, $2.2 billion on toys/video games, and $2 billion on consumer electronics. Consumer hardware and peripherals also attracted attention from online buyers generating revenue of $1.7 billion. Videos/DVDs also had a strong season last year with online shoppers spending $1.6 billion.

Why?
The vast majority of internet shoppers claim the fact that online retail stores never close is the main reason for shopping on the world wide web. Most users also sight the ability to comparison shop with the click of a button as another reason. With bigger bargains, expanding choices, fewer hassles and lessening fears over credit card fraud, the number of shoppers who plan to shop online this year is expected to reach record numbers.

You may have the greatest web site, the most spectacular products and services, but if you lack a good e-commerce presence, then you WILL NEVER make any real money - EVER!
